911±¬ÁÏÍø sits today on the homelands of the Pocumtuck, Norwottock, Woronoco, Agawam, Nipmuck and Abenaki. Native peoples still live here. This land was the site of warfare during the Battle of Great Rivers Falls, and the outcome of that war forever changed the people, land and waterways that some call the Connecticut River Valley. Respecting and acknowledging indigenous connections to this land is a first step in a long process of self-education. As new findings reshape our understanding, we commit to the work of decolonizing our thinking regarding our region’s history. We also give gratitude for nearby waters and lands, on which we depend to sustain life and wellbeing. We are all interconnected.
