Service<\/strong> is the act of using one\u2019s time, skills, and compassion to meet the needs of others. At its core, service is about giving back to the community in meaningful ways\u2014whether that means volunteering for a local nonprofit, supporting campus initiatives or lending your strengths to a cause bigger than yourself.<\/div>\n

<\/span>What is Service Learning?<\/div>
\n

Service learning goes one step further than traditional volunteering. It combines community service with academic learning. Students apply classroom knowledge to real-world experiences and, in return, reflect on how those experiences enhance their learning.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

<\/span>What is Americorps\/VISTA?<\/div>
\n

AmeriCorps<\/strong> is a network of local, state and national service programs that connects over 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet community needs in education, the environment, public safety, health, and homeland security. AmeriCorps\u2019 members serve with more than 2,000 non-profits, public agencies and community organizations.<\/p>\n

VISTA<\/strong> stands for Volunteers in Service to America<\/b> and is a branch of AmeriCorps focused on fighting poverty by building an organization’s long-term capacity by creating sustainable systems and programs, like volunteer-tracking and implementing service projects into college curriculum.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n
